Brief Biography


Mária Horváth, Hungarian pianist has lived in the United States of America since 1992. She has appeared as a soloist in France, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, and the USA and has also performed in a variety of chamber ensembles and orchestras and accompanied singers, instrumentalists, choirs, as well as opera and musical theater productions. Currently she is the principal pianist and celeste player of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and an active soloist and accompanist.

Horváth has taught piano to students of all ages, abilities, and levels of accomplishment (beginner to graduate piano performance major) in Hungary as well as in the United States. Her students won numerous prizes and honors. At the college level, she taught applied piano and piano accompanying for graduate and undergraduate students at Illinois State University in Normal, IL, following a three-year residence at Millikin University in Decatur, IL. She had also taught at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary. Currently she teaches advanced piano and music appreciation at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL and beginner to advanced piano in her private piano studio, The Art of Piano in Rochester, IL. She is a frequent adjudicator, master class clinician and lecturer.

Horváth was awarded the D.M.A. (Doctor of Musical Arts) degree in Piano Performance from Louisiana State University, the M.M. degree from Illinois State University, and the Artist-Teacher Diploma in Piano from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary. Most recently, she completed the M.S. degree in Arts Technology at Illinois State University, concentrating on music technology and various other technologies relevant to performing artists.
